Give Your Panels a Clean Run at the Sun
Solar panels are built to be left alone, but the air around them isn't clean. Dust, pollen, bird droppings and general grime settle on the surface over months and years, sitting directly between the sun and the cells underneath.
More of the sun gets through
Clearing what's built up gives your panels a clean run at the sunlight, rather than filtering it through a layer of grime.
The finish protected
We use pure water and a soft brush, not abrasive pads or high pressure, so the panel surface isn't put at risk in the process.
No unnecessary risk to your roof
Most domestic arrays are reached safely from the ground with a water-fed pole, with no ladder needed against your roof.
A clear routine
There's no one schedule that suits every system. We'll advise what suits your setup and surroundings.
Do solar panels actually need cleaning?
Solar panels don't necessarily need cleaning every few months. On many UK roofs, rainfall removes a lot of everyday dust.
However, rain doesn't always remove stubborn contamination such as bird droppings, pollen, lichen or heavier deposits. If dirt is visibly building up across the glass, professional cleaning can help keep the surface clear so sunlight can reach the cells effectively.
Panels close to trees, busy roads, farmland or areas with heavy bird activity may need attention more often than others.
Safe solar panel cleaning without pressure washing
Solar panels need a different approach from patios, driveways and other exterior surfaces. We use a soft-brush water-fed system with pure water to gently remove dirt and deposits from the glass. There is no aggressive pressure washing of the panels.
Pure water contains very little dissolved mineral content, helping the glass dry cleanly without leaving the mineral spotting that ordinary tap water can leave behind.
Soft brushes
Designed to clean the glass without aggressive scrubbing.
Pure water
A clean rinse without soaps or residue.
No pressure washing
We don't blast panels with high-pressure equipment.
Appropriate access
The safest practical cleaning method is chosen according to the property and panel location.

Bird Droppings
Patches that shade the cells beneath them
Bird mess shades whatever it lands on and can be stubborn once it's baked on in the sun. We clear it with pure water and a soft brush rather than anything that could mark the panel.

Solar panel cleaning for homes and businesses
We clean solar PV panels on residential and commercial properties across Swindon and Wiltshire. From domestic rooftop arrays to larger installations, the cleaning method and access requirements are assessed for the individual property.
Residential Solar Panel Cleaning
Homes, landlords and residential properties. Already have window cleaning with us? Ask for the panels to be quoted at the same time.
Commercial Solar Panel Cleaning
Businesses, offices and larger installations. See our commercial exterior cleaning for how we work with business sites.
How often should solar panels be cleaned?
There isn't one cleaning schedule that suits every solar installation.
For many properties, occasional cleaning when visible dirt has accumulated is enough. Panels near trees, agricultural land, busy roads or areas with frequent bird activity may require cleaning more often.
If you're unsure, send us a photo of the panels and we can discuss whether a clean is worthwhile.
Solar Panel Cleaning Questions
How often should I have my solar panels cleaned?
It depends on the property and surroundings. Panels affected by trees, birds, nearby roads, farmland or heavier dust may need cleaning more frequently. For many homes, cleaning when visible contamination has built up is sufficient.
Do solar panels clean themselves when it rains?
Rain removes a lot of loose dust and dirt, particularly on pitched panels, but it may not remove stubborn bird droppings, pollen, lichen and other deposits. If contamination remains visible, the panels may benefit from cleaning.
Can solar panels be pressure washed?
We don't pressure wash solar panels. High-pressure water can risk damaging seals or other components. We use a gentler soft-brush and water-fed cleaning system instead.
Will cleaning damage my panels or affect the warranty?
No. We use pure water and a soft brush rather than anything abrasive or high pressure, which is the gentle approach most manufacturers recommend to keep panels performing well and warranties intact.
Do you clean from the ground or from the roof?
Most domestic arrays are reached safely from the ground with a water-fed pole, no ladder against your roof needed. Where panels are out of the pole's reach, we access them safely from height, the same insured approach we use for roof cleaning.
Do you use any chemicals or detergents?
No, just purified water and a soft brush. It's the same system we use for window cleaning, and it leaves no residue on the panels.
Will cleaning actually improve how much power I generate?
A layer of dust, pollen or droppings sits between the sun and the cells, so clearing it away gives your panels a clean run at the sunlight. How much difference it makes depends on how dirty they were to start with, so we don't promise a fixed percentage increase in energy generation.
Do you walk on my roof to clean the panels?
Only where it's genuinely needed and safe to do so, and we take care around the panels and any cabling throughout. Most domestic jobs don't require it at all.
Can you clean ground-mounted solar arrays too?
Yes. Ground-mounted panels are just as straightforward for us to reach and clean as roof-mounted ones.
Do you clean commercial solar panels?
Yes. We can quote for residential and commercial solar panel cleaning across Swindon and Wiltshire, subject to access and site requirements. See our commercial exterior cleaning page for how we work with businesses.
Are you insured to work at height?
Yes. We carry £5 million public liability insurance on every job, roof access included.
How long does it take?
We'll give you a clear idea of timing in your quote, based on the number of panels and how we access them.
Do I need to be in?
No, as long as we can access the panels. Tell us about gates and parking when you enquire and we'll plan around them.
How do I get a solar panel cleaning quote?
Send us a photo of your panels, roof-mounted or ground-mounted, along with your postcode, and we'll set out a clear quote.
