Can You Pressure Wash Block Paving?
Yes, and it's one of the best surfaces for it, when it's done with the right pressure and technique. Here's what a proper block paving clean involves.
Why block paving suits pressure washing
Block paving is tough, and years of rain, shade and traffic leave it green, grey and stained. Pressure washing lifts that ground-in dirt from the surface and out of the joints far better than a brush and hose ever could.
The catch is control. Too much pressure or poor technique can mark the surface, scour the joints and leave visible stripes, the tell-tale zebra lines you sometimes see on DIY jobs. A professional clean is about the right pressure, the right nozzle and an even, methodical technique.
What a proper block paving clean involves
A good clean starts with looking at the paving, its age, its condition and what's growing on it. Algae, moss and black spot are treated first, then the surface is cleaned methodically, block by block, and rinsed clean.
Stains such as oil, rust and tyre marks get their own treatment as part of the clean, so they're not just blasted and forgotten. Our driveway cleaning covers all of this as standard.
Why the joints matter
The sand between your blocks does an important job. It locks the blocks together and gives the driveway its finished, crisp look. Cleaning naturally washes some of it out, which is why a thorough clean is often followed by re-sanding.
Once the paving is dry, we brush fresh sand into every joint, finishing the driveway properly. It's the difference between a driveway that's clean and one that looks complete.
Kiln-dried sand or hard-setting sand?
Kiln-dried sand is the classic finish, brushed into dry joints. Hard-setting sand is a firmer alternative for suitable paving, and some products come in a choice of colours. We recommend the right one for your paving and the finish you're after when we quote.
DIY or professional?
Hiring or buying a pressure washer is easy. Getting a consistent, streak-free result on a whole driveway is not. A professional brings the right equipment, the right technique and treatments for growth and stains, and finishes the joints properly. You get your weekend back, too.
Quick Questions
Will pressure washing damage my block paving?
Done properly, no. Damage comes from too much pressure or poor technique. We control both.
Do I need to re-sand after cleaning?
Cleaning removes some of the sand from the joints, so re-sanding once the paving is dry gives the driveway a crisp, finished look. It's a premium finishing option we quote alongside the clean.
How long should I wait before using the driveway?
Once the surface is dry, it's ready to use. If we re-sand, we'll tell you when it's ready.
